Our setting believes that care and education are equally important in the experience which we offer children. The routines and activities that make up the day in the setting are provided in ways that
We organise our sessions so that the children can choose from, and play at, a range of activities, in doing so children can build up their ability to independently select and engage in a variety of experiences. The children are also helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small and large group activities which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work with others.
Outdoor activities contribute to children's health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them. The children have the opportunity, and are encouraged, to take part in outdoor child-chosen and adult-led activities, as well as those provided in the indoor playroom.
Staff welcome children and parents/carers as they arrive, staff and parents settle the children into their play, offering comfort to children who need it.
LIBRARY BOOKS: All children within the group can borrow books to take home, they must be chosen and signed for by the child’s parent/carer and can be done at the start or end of a session.
Children are asked to sit on a mat for register, once seated a member of staff will call the children’s names and record who is present/absent. The children take it in turns to count those present.
Instructions regarding the day’s activities are given together with a reminder of the group’s safety rules during play.
Children can choose their own activities and go and play supported by staff and volunteer helpers.
SNACK TIME: Children are encouraged to have their snack between 10.00am and 10.30am. They must wash their hands and find their mat, then they are allowed to help themselves to their snack and milk/water. Once finished they must put their rubbish in the bin and place their mat and plates back on the front table.
11.00am TIDY-UP TIME
Children are encouraged to tidy away toys and activities alongside the grown-ups.
11.10am OUTSIDE PLAY
Weather permitting children put on their coats and go outside to play. If too cold or wet, indoor activities are arranged.
All children sit on the mat and have a story read to them, after this the story is discussed, along with any other news.
Depending on time allowing musical instruments are handed out and nursery rhymes and songs are sung.
Children prepare for home by collecting their pictures, bags and coats and once ready are told to sit on the mat until their parents/carers collect them from the mat.
Once the children are ready, the parents/carers are allowed into the room. Collection of the children is supervised by a member of staff to ensure children leave with their parents or authorised carer. Any changes in the adult collecting a child are recorded and signed by the parent and person collecting the child.
